Sigurdur Gustafsson ‘Rock ‘n Roll’ chair for Kallemö

The Icelandic architect Sigurdur Gustafsson has made some spectacular armchairs in his career, and the Wind chair is one of the strongest, in my opinion. A metal cube with two oxidized copper nets flying within. As if you are looking at a still picture of the wind playing with some pieces of paper or silk.

Growing up as a child of a carpenter, Sigurdur would play in the wrecker’s yard that was next to the carpentry. Gustafsson works simultaneously with expressive and geometrical forms. Works by Gustafsson can be found in the collection of the National Museum of Stockholm and Iceland’s Designmuseum.
