1983 Lella & Massimo Vignelli Ambiguità console table for casigliani

Ambiguità

The word Ambiguità was often used to show despise for a man who changed his ways of being and thinking in the course of his life. Still, today it has become the emblematic description of an intelligence that refuses mental rigidity. This table is intended as an homage to ambiguity: while on one side it is properly finished, on the other side, both the base and the top are cut diagonally to indicate the non finished: the table has a beginning but not an end, we don’t know if and where it ends.

The working philosophy of the Vignellis’ centered on the two principles of:

-discipline, propriety, ambiguity

-history, theory, criticism

Has been immediately embraced by Casigliani.

From this union are born objects and pieces of furniture that are rigorous both in the design and the choice and use of materials, objects which might and must remain in our homes beyond any turn of fashion.
