1980s ‘Senufo’ daybed by Wiliam Phlips

Description

Wiliam Phlips is a designer, performer, writer and scenographer who lives and works in Ghent. He can be seen as a creative centipede, endlessly looking for beauty with a twist. He belonged to the inner circle of friends from Maarten Van Severen which we can feel when we look at several designs of him.

Late 1980s artist & designer Wiliam Phlips took an existing Ivory Coast daybed from the Senufo tribes and made a cast of it. Then he made an epoxy resin mix with an intense vibrant red colour.

In stead of keeping the for legs of the original design Wiliam choose for 8 low steel feet. Wit doing this the artist achieves something new. A minimal & modern hybrid that rises above any trend or direction. It is on itself and requires no specific surrounding.
