Unique 1968 travertine brutalist coffee table from Maison Jansen project

Description

In 1968, Mr. Romi Goldmuntz appointed Maison Jansen Paris to take charge and decorate the Romi Goldmuntz center in Antwerp, Belgium. It was undoubtedly the most luxurious and exuberant interior project in Antwerp of that decade.

Maison Jansen was given unlimited resources to commission the best artists of its time to decorate the building.

The large entrance hall’s walls and ceilings were tiled with these travertine tiles that makes me remind of the work of Nerone e Patuzzi (gruppo NP2) or Carlo Scarpa. The exact designer of these magnificent tiles is unknown for now, but they are undoubtedly high quality and gorgeous.

I took the initiative to apply the stones and design this table as a small limited series.

Pierre Sabatier was asked to manage the building’s entrance area. Sabatier proposed making monumental tin-coated copper claustra, separation walls, doors, door handles, and the decoration panels of the bar.

Pierre Culot made a 14 meter long ceder wooden wall for the ballroom. The entire building was furnished with Knoll and Herman Miller furniture.
